Mahindra, the renowned Indian auto manufacturer, is set to launch the highly anticipated 5-door Thar, likely to be named the Thar Armada. Expected to hit the market on August 15, 2024, this new iteration will enhance the iconic off-road SUV's versatility, making it more family-friendly while retaining its robust performance capabilities.
Key Features and Design
The Mahindra Thar Armada will showcase significant exterior and interior upgrades. The SUV will sport a newly designed grille, a revised front bumper, all-LED lighting, and 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The rear will feature a new bumper and a rear wiper. A standout addition is the remote fuel-filling cap.
Inside, the Thar Armada will boast a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, and rear AC vents. Additional features include push start/stop button, front and rear center armrests, and ample legroom and headroom in the rear seats.
Engine and Performance
The Thar Armada will offer multiple engine options. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine will produce 175 hp, while the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine will generate 203 hp. There will also be a 1.5-litre diesel engine variant with a rear-wheel-drive setup. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be available, ensuring a versatile driving experience.
Safety and Technology
Safety is a priority in the Thar Armada, featuring Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, and more. The SUV will also come equipped with six airbags, a 360° surround-view system, front parking sensors, and a driver drowsiness detection system.
Pricing and Competition
The Mahindra Thar Armada is expected to be priced between Rs 16.00 lakh and Rs 20.00 lakh, slightly higher than its predecessor. It will compete with the likes of the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Suzuki Jimny in the Indian market.
