Farewell to a Legend: Smriti Biswas Passes Away at 100
Veteran actor Smriti Biswas, renowned for her roles in Bengali, Hindi, and Marathi films, passed away on July 3 at the age of 100. The esteemed actress breathed her last in her Nashik residence due to age-related ailments.
Smriti Biswas began her illustrious career as a child artist and starred in numerous films from the 1930s to the 1960s. Her career was marked by collaborations with legendary filmmakers such as Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. She also shared the screen with notable actors like Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, and Balraj Sahni.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to Instagram to express his condolences, sharing several photos of Biswas and writing, “Go away in peace and to a happier place dear Smritiji. Thank you for blessing our lives.”
Biswas made her film debut with the Bengali movie Sandhya in 1930 and appeared last in the 1960 film Model Girl. She retired from acting after marrying filmmaker SD Narang and moved to Nashik after his death in 1986. She lived in a modest one-room-kitchen rented flat in the Nashik Road area.
The actress celebrated her 100th birthday on February 17, 2024, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her two sons, Satyajeet and Rajeev.
Smriti Biswas leaves behind a legacy of cinematic brilliance and a treasure trove of memorable performances that will continue to inspire future generations.

प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री स्मृति बिस्वास, जिन्हें बंगाली, हिंदी और मराठी फिल्मों में उनके योगदान के लिए जाना जाता है, का 3 जुलाई को 100 वर्ष की आयु में निधन हो गया। वृद्धावस्था संबंधी बीमारियों के कारण उन्होंने नासिक स्थित अपने आवास में अंतिम सांस ली।
स्मृति बिस्वास ने अपने शानदार करियर की शुरुआत बाल कलाकार के रूप में की और 1930 से 1960 तक कई फिल्मों में अभिनय किया। उनका करियर गुरु दत्त, वी शांताराम, मृणाल सेन, बिमल रॉय, बीआर चोपड़ा और राज कपूर जैसे महान फिल्मकारों के साथ सहयोग के लिए जाना जाता है। उन्होंने देव आनंद, किशोर कुमार और बलराज साहनी जैसे प्रसिद्ध अभिनेताओं के साथ भी स्क्रीन साझा की।
फिल्म निर्माता हंसल मेहता ने इंस्टाग्राम पर अपनी संवेदनाएं व्यक्त कीं, स्मृति बिस्वास की कई तस्वीरें साझा करते हुए लिखा, “शांति से जाओ और एक बेहतर जगह पर जाओ प्रिय स्मृतिजी। हमारे जीवन को आशीर्वाद देने के लिए धन्यवाद।”
बिस्वास ने 1930 में बंगाली फिल्म संध्या से फिल्मी करियर की शुरुआत की और 1960 की फिल्म मॉडल गर्ल में अंतिम बार दिखाई दीं। उन्होंने फिल्म निर्माता एसडी नरंग से शादी करने के बाद अभिनय छोड़ दिया और 1986 में उनके निधन के बाद नासिक चली गईं। वह नासिक रोड क्षेत्र में एक साधारण एक कमरे-किचन वाले किराए के फ्लैट में रहती थीं।
अभिनेत्री ने 17 फरवरी 2024 को अपना 100वां जन्मदिन अपने परिवार के साथ मनाया। उनके दो पुत्र सत्यजीत और राजीव हैं।
स्मृति बिस्वास अपनी फिल्मी प्रतिभा की विरासत और अनगिनत यादगार प्रदर्शनों के खजाने को छोड़ गईं हैं, जो आने वाली पीढ़ियों को प्रेरित करता रहेगा।
